Who is Crooked Wood Canada?
My name is Jamie Cruickshank, I was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, which is where I own and operate Crooked Wood Canada.
I am a firefighter in Mississauga, and Crooked Wood Canada is a passion project that I operate in my free time.
It has quickly become an enormous part of my life, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I enjoy owning a business, and everything (good and difficult) that comes with it, but most of all I really enjoy creating pieces for people that they love.

How did Crooked Wood Canada begin?
Crooked Wood Canada began 100% organically, and at the start, I never could have guessed what it has become today.
It all started with a bench. A friend of mine asked if I could build a bench to go with her dining room table. I had done some trades courses, had a couple tools, and thought I knew enough to make it work. And luckily it did (with some minor adjustments needed after the fact).
Then, I was asked if I could make two of those benches, and a dining room table. So I decided I'd give it a go. By the end of that project, honestly I wanted nothing to do with woodworking. I had all these tools now that I had bought, but there were so many frustrations throughout the project, I didn't think it was for me. So I decided to just leave the tools in the shop and forget about it.
But as the weeks went by, I kept finding myself being pulled into the shop to make new stuff, and that is when I knew I wanted to pursue this. Whenever I had the time, I found myself genuinely wanting to be in the shop, creating.
I started exploring different wood species, and that's when I came across walnut. I knew that walnut was the wood I really wanted to spend my time on, because of its natural historic beauty, and fascinating grain patterns that are unique to each piece. Once I found epoxy, I knew that was something I wanted to incorporate as well. I wanted walnut to be the star of the show, and epoxy, its supporting cast.
Today, I have expanded from just walnut, to wood species such as maple, olive wood, and others.
I love what I do, and I want that to shine through in every piece I make.
Why choose Crooked Wood Canada?
If you are looking for a custom coffee table, end table, shelving, coat rack, charcuterie board, or anything else I create, Crooked Wood Canada is the place to get it.
Buying something custom made can be overwhelming, daunting, time consuming, and even frustrating. I pride myself in making sure you never have any of those feelings during the process of building your custom piece. In fact, I make it a point to make sure you enjoy the process, because you are building your dream piece, that I want you to thoroughly enjoy for years to come.
You get to speak directly with me, Jamie, throughout the entire process of the build, and every decision is up to you. It is my job to walk you through step by step and ask you the right questions, so I can see the vision that is in your mind, and try to replicate it.
In my opinion, beauty is in the details. I take that seriously when building my pieces. Every single detail matters, because it is my goal to create something that you absolutely love, and want to keep in your family for decades. It is easy enough to make something that looks good in pictures, but what really matters is when you, the customer, holds it and sees it in person, I want you to be blown away.
